Even applicants from the same family, or who applied the same day, can get their decision at different times: files are split between different visa officers, and the consulate can request extra documents from just one applicant without it affecting the others, often a sign the file is heading towards approval, not away from it. Don't plan around someone else's timeline, even a close relative's case can move at a different pace.

Keep the receipt VFS gives you at the end of your appointment, it carries your application number, different from your appointment number and usually starting with a country code. Enter it with your last name on the official VFS Germany tracking page. You'll typically see "under process" while your file is with the consulate, then a status showing it's on its way back to VFS once a decision is made, and finally that it's ready for collection, usually about 2 days after that middle status appears.

The sponsor is whoever pays for the trip. If you fund it yourself, your own employment and bank documents are what matter. If a family member pays, for example a spouse, the financial documents that count are theirs: passport, proof of employment, and a bank statement showing they can cover your costs, usually with a short letter confirming they are sponsoring you. For business travel, the sponsor is normally the company, which provides an invitation letter and, where asked, proof it will cover the expenses.
